Ellisa Sun’s music is a tapestry woven from many genres, from neo-soul and bossa nova to folk and R&B. Drawing inspiration from artists like Amy Winehouse, Sam Cooke, and Lauryn Hill, Ellisa brings old time soul to her worldly sound.

What made you decide to play BMF, and what are you looking forward to about the fest?

Ellisa: "I decided to play Bear Music Fest because the idea behind it is so cool! I love the intimate stages mixed with the backdrop of gorgeous forest. It's also such a great opportunity to meet like-minded people who value good music from bands they may not have heard of."

How would you describe your sound to someone who hadn't heard your music before?

Ellisa: "Mix Norah Jones with Sara Bareilles, with a dash of Mazzy Star! It's a combo of jazz, pop, soul and rock."

What might people be surprised to learn about you?

Ellisa: "I didn't start singing in front of people seriously until I was 24 years old. As a youngster it was my dream to be a singer and musician but I was always too afraid to try, fearing criticism and rejection. I'm now 29, and in the last 5 years I've put together a band and an album I can say i'm pretty proud of!"
